If they compared a 67 SS with the top of the line motor to a 2010 SS it would be more like 250lbs, not 800+.

Not sure I agree w/ their chart. How did the 1992 model gain weight over the '91? and why is the '02 100 lbs heavier than an '01?

My guess, in both cases, is that the figures are averages weighted by the number sold, and that in '92 and '02, anniversary editions caused convertibles to sell in larger numbers than usual.

The curb weight for a 6 cylinder 1967 Chevrolet Camaro was listed by GENERAL MOTORS as 2910 pounds.

All figures below are from General motors regarding the '67 Camaro:

3,070 pounds for the 8-cylinder coupe, 3,165 pounds for the 6-cylinder convertible, and 3,325 for the 8-cylinder convertible.

The article is way off the mark on the 1st gen Camaros.

On the 2nd gen, they have a very big generalization. 2nd gen weights veried greatly due to the addition of 5mph bumpers and reinforced structures to support them, as well as additional pollution equptment gained and the loss of dual exhausts, the significantly lighter 305 V8 and THM200 transmission, and the revised bumper & weight loss in later years.

The 3rd gen's 3300 pounds is pretty close.

The 4th gen lost about 40 pounds with the LS1 over the LT1, but also is close.

Later years had less variation of options and equptment, so there isn't as great of a range of weight.

FWIW, an SS 396 Camaro could weigh all the way up to 3800 pounds.... a '69 Z28 could reach 3760.

.... and I'm not talking the convertibles either.

Alot of those numbers are obviously off, and they're just going by the lightest models not the heaviest.

Will someone please send them some better pics of a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Camaro. Did they just drive around looking for a Camaro and found those? Each picture looks vintage.

I think they will find and many of us already know that many production cars get larger and heavier at each generation change. There are a few exceptions, Corvette.

We've beat the weight issue on the 5th Gen Camaro to death many times over. In order to get a 5th Gen Camaro it needed a RWD platform that was ready, available, cheap enough to keep the cars' overall cost down and strong enough to compete in todays market with 420+ Hp and Tq on tap. So Zeta with its sedan roots was chosen and the rest is history. The 5th Gen Camaro is a slight departure from the prior 4 generations and has to meet all of todays standards. So while I don't like the bloat in weight I understand it.

Why don't they just take the '84 4cyl chassis and hook up an LS3? That would only be around 3300 pounds with 425hp.

I'm sure the drive line and chassis and tires and brakes could handle the extra 335hp just fine.
No strengthening is necessary, because I heard once that someone put a turbo V8 in one of these. No one needs A/C, because you can just roll down the windows and turn up the vent if it's too hot inside.
