Auto vs manual prod. #s

I know this will be pure speculation, but with GM trying to have the camaro go more mainstream do you think there will be a lot more autos than manuals?
In 2002 the numbers were
Automatics - 29,034 - 69.5%
6-speeds - 10,188 - 24.4%
5-speeds - 2,555 - 6.1%
https://www.camaroz28.com/articles/0...rs/index.shtml

I'm just wondering for those of us who won't be able to order it how easy/hard will it be to find a manual on the dealer lot?

Depends on if paddle shift is an option.

It'll probably be damn hard to "find" one . Already is/was (with ~60 - 70% being auto).

BUT, it seems that RWD is making a come-back ..... maybe manual transmissions will too?

I Just hope they don't charge extra for the M6 trannies on the V8 models when we do find one.

Manuals making a come-back would be nice though. It's nice to have control over those ponies under the hood.

Unfortunately I wouldn't hold your breathe.... It will probably be like it was on the GTOs, but at least with the GTOs you didn't get hit with the gas guzzler tax which compensated for the difference, so I guess we will just have to see.

Manual transmissions should be STANDARD.

Agreed...make it standard, and the auto an expensive option.

Not to expensive about 800.00 for a paddle shifter automatic.

That's usually the case. They just usually build most of them as autos.

I think the numbers are a little skewed with those figures. I know you got them from this site:

https://www.camaroz28.com/articles/0...rs/index.shtml

...but go into more detail.

Camaro SS Coupe with 6-Speed:
4,811 units - 6.6% of Total Production

Camaro SS Coupe with Automatic:
3,527 units - 4.9% of Total Production

Camaro SS Convertible with 6-Speed:
1,297 Units - 1.8% of Total Production

Camaro SS Convertible with Automatic:
1,556 Units - 2.1% of Total Production

Units with LS1 Engine:

Camaros with LS1 Engine (Z28 and SS) - 24,805 - 59.4%

it is illegal to copy this information without permission from CamaroZ28.Com

Units with V-6 Engine:

Camaros with 3800 V-6 engine - 16,972 - 57.6%
I know the percentage numbers with the v6/v8 are a little messed up but you get the point. There were a good amount of v6s sold, and the vast majority of those (16972 total/2,555 with manual tranny) were sold with an auto behind that.

Do some math:

16972-2555=14417 autos contributed to v6s

29034 autos total-14417 autos behind v6=14617 autos behind v8s

Considering there were 24805 v8 camaros made that year the percentage of performance models with a manual behind them is a lot better then the figures show at first.

10188/24805=0.410

41% of the v8s came with a manual transmission. That's a big percentage, and not one to ignore.

Actually,$1,250. At least that's what it is on the Corvette where the 6sp MANUAL is standard equipment
