Sympatico claims Z28 coming...
http://autos.sympatico.ca/auto-news/...stang-boss-302
With the release of the Mustang Boss 302, the 'Stang is king of the pony cars, but not for long: Chevy is reviving the Camaro Z28.
The legendary nameplate will make a comeback on a hardcore, track focused Camaro. The Z28 will sit above the new ZL1 at the top of the Camaro line.
The regular car has been put on a crash diet to get ready for its big face-off against the 'Stang. A carbon-fibre hood and roof will keep weight down, as will custom lightweight 19-inch racing alloys and the removal of the rear seats.
No word yet on the motor, but we expect a slightly detuned version of the Corvette Z06's LS7 V8 to appear under the hood. Like other high-performance engines from GM, it would be hand built at the firm's Performance Build Centre in Wixom, Michigan.
Take Chevy's sketch with a grain of skepticism though. As usual, expect the production car to run realistic ride height and less Hot Wheels-like rims.

Take it with a grain of salt. I don't think that the LS7 would be placed in a Z28, but rather something new. I'm also not sure it would be above the ZL1 either... Will wait for an official announcement...

Re: Sympatico claims Z28 coming...
how much horesepower would a "detuned ls7" make? the detuned ls9 (lsa) makes around 70ish less horsepower. It would be much easier for chevy to add 10, 20, 30 whatever hp to the ls3 than to detune the ls7 to make the same 450 or so.

Above the ZL1 doesn't sound right to me either, it should be between SS and ZL1. The camaro could benifit aesthetically from a dovetail like spoiler like the tall wrap arounds on the 70-73 camaros, but that ****ty looking whale tale spoiler in the sketch has got to go.

Re: Sympatico claims Z28 coming...
Why detune the LS7 to say 480hp when GM already has a hotcam version of the LS3 that makes 480hp?
I hope it doesn't get a rear seat delete. Optional like on the Boss 302, ok; but certainly don't make it std.

That was my thinking too. Perhaps an LSA with some goodies or a modified LS3, in keeping with the same batch of engines. I can see it having mag-ride like the ZL1, in the form of an adjustable suspension, with carbon fibre or magnesium body panels, etc. Or what about a turbocharged version? Just tossing ideas out
