Joining its Corvette brother, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SSX Track Car Concept goes black-and-white for the checkered flag with a host of racing upgrades. While it's not a streetable car, it shows Chevy's commitment to supporting the teams that actually put Camaros on track, which in turn feeds back into the production Camaro's impact on the street.
Many of the improvements for the Camaro SSX Track Car Concept are focused at reducing weight--the Camaro's primary evil. Carbon fiber body panels and aero parts combine with deletion of carpeting, sound deadening and the rear seat, plus lightweight racing wheels. Some of the weight is put back with a roll cage, fire suppression system, and racing seat/restraint system.
Power for the SSX comes from the dry-sump LS3 found in the Corvette Grand Sport, with performance enhanced with Chevrolet Performance Parts cams and cylinder heads. To handle the power under racing conditions, the standard production six-speed manual is mated to a Corvette ZR1 twin-disc clutch. Upgraded brakes with racing-spec ducting help haul the show to a stop.
VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS
Exterior:
•Icy White Metallic color with red accents and door graphics
•Carbon fiber hood, fenders, door and deck lid
•Exposed carbon fiber front splitter, rockers and adjustable rear wing
•Unique lower grille and brake ducts
Interior:
•Carpeting, sound deadener and rear seat deleted
•Ace suede-covered racing steering wheel and shifter
•SCCA-approved roll cage and window net
•Racing driver’s seat with five-point harness
•Racing pedals
•Fire suppression system
•Fuel cell
•Video camera system mounted on the roll cage
Performance:
•LS3 6.2L V-8 enhanced with Chevrolet Performance Parts’ camshaft, cylinder heads and dry-sump oiling system
•Production six-speed manual transmission with Corvette ZR1 twin-disc clutch
•Low-restriction air induction and exhaust systems
•Four-wheel disc racing brake system with six-piston front/four-piston rear calipers and drilled and slotted rotors
•Modified production suspension with Pfadt licensed components

NEWS: SEMA 2010: Chevrolet Camaro SSX Concept is what track day dreams are made of
Filed under: Aftermarket, SEMA Show, Coupe, Performance, Chevrolet, Racing
Chevrolet has made it clear that the company has a strong interest in helping owners get the most out of vehicles like the Corvette and the Camaro on a race track. While the epic Corvette Z06X Concept was seemingly envisioned as the Bow Tie answer to the Dodge Viper ACR-X, Chevrolet is showing the Camaro similar love via the SSX Concept. The car makes use of a host of carbon fiber in places like the trunk lid, hood, fenders and doors to keep weight as low as possible, and while the company isn't saying exactly how many pounds it managed to shed compared to the standard SS, we've got to imagine that the figure is far from insubstantial.
In addition to putting the Camaro on a diet, Chevrolet also took it upon itself to play havoc with the 6.2-liter under the hood by bolting on tricks like new CNC aluminum cylinder heads, sliding in a new camshaft and swapping in a dry-sump oil system. Make no mistake, with around 524 horsepower on tap, this dog will hunt. Hit the jump for the full press blast.

That car is pure sex. I wonder if the parts are going to be made available individually?
