Left in Drive and with part throttle used, the engine will rev to somewhere just north of three grand and shift — no real boost effect is felt. Left in Drive and with the throttle floored, the engine will hit the boost at about 4,000 rpm and scream to 6,000 rpm before shifting with a satisfying whump
So...maybe a dumb question, but does this mean the SC is not doing anything until 4,000 rpm? No boost at lower revs?

Exactly. It is a centrifugal compressor that is driven by the crank... so compressor rpm varies linearly with crank rpm. Apparently with the stock pulley it does not make boost until 4000 rpm which means it will be in vacuum below that.

Interesting. We had a Vortech supercharger on my son's 96 Mustang GT. The car was a kick to drive. I was already leaning towards the L99 and this just might push me over the edge.

With that much power I'd just expect a bit better than 115mph trap speeds.

This car would be quite interesting with a higher stall torque converter!
