Will a 383 fit in a 2010 camaro?

Ok i just need to know if a 383 stoker would fit in a new camaro because my plan is to buy a base V6 take out the V6 and drop in the 383.

If you take the standard 61 cubic inches per liter, then the stock 2010 camaro is 6.2l so 61*6.2 is 378 cubic inches. So yes it will fit, but old school 383 would not make as much clean power as the new LS series engines

Any LS engine will fit. You can bore an LS engine to 383... but the stock LS3 V8 is 376ci (not 378 as stated above -- there's a rounding error in the conversion), and the extra 7ci wouldn't do much. LS engines can go all the way up to 510ci if you have the money.

If you're talking about a carbureted first-generation 350 SBC with a stroker crank -- yeah, it'd probably fit, but you'd need to fabricate custom motor mounts and a custom fuel system at the very least -- and I really doubt that any vendors are making such a thing. Furthermore, depending on your intake and carb choice, you might need a different hood to clear it.

I think you need to put some more thought into your plans. An old-school, carbureted first-gen small block in a fifth-gen Camaro would turn some heads, but it wouldn't be positive attention.

I'm curious -- why exactly do you want to do this? I'm concerned that you got your hands on an old 383, and my thought is that the direct-injection V6 in the base car might be just as powerful!

Re: Will a 383 fit in a 2010 camaro?

o well my grandpa has a 383 in his 1964 impala SS and i could get it for a good price but when i get the money i would love to put in a LSX 376 or a 454 and my mom and dad have 2 2010 camaro SS i would like that but they wont spend that kind of money on me since they are selling my truck which has a 454 in it and its a 8.1 liter i would like to keep the truck but 10MPG is just to costly when your 16 and can only work during the summer. so i want a camaro just not a V6 i dont like them not fast enough for me.

I would suggest going for a Ls1 4th gen Fbody then, cheaper than a 5th gen, still got V8 power, and no offence but putting a 383ci old school motor is a 5th gen is one stupid idea

Re: Will a 383 fit in a 2010 camaro?

My 2011 SS was cheaper than the loaded v6 at the dealership. And I have no idea why 300 HP v6 wouldn't be enough for a 16 year old...if you ask me its about 200 HP too much for a 16 year old. My 95 trans am with 275 got me in trouble when I was 17 and I willing to bet I thought I was just as good of a driver as u, but I wasn't lol.

if you buy a 2010+ and do a motor swap. I feel sorry.

Do it to a 4th gen, but even then, just buy a LS1 4th gen and go from there. forget that 383

Re: Will a 383 fit in a 2010 camaro?

I definately would not suggest you do this..
when I used to race, my brother and I had a 383 stroker in our dirt Late Model...it had 550 hp but it cost around 11,000 and was all cast iron...no fuel injection, no anything, was a great engine, but, I would not put it in my 2010. I'd say if you want a V8, buy one with a V8. I love my SS, don't get me wrong, a V6 with some money in it will go, but a muscle car should have a V8...even when I am driving mine and I see another camaro, I get excited...until I see its a base model..then I don't even look at them when I pass >.>

if you're gonna go, go big! you only live once after all.

theres nothing wrong with v6's.....and your still in high school? how can you afford a boat, grand prix, truck and quad in high school?

as far as a 383, theres way more better ways to make power rather than boring out the motor.
