5th gen gas mileage

ok the v6 2012 is supposed to get 29mpg, what are you v6 owners getting on average? I would like to get one to use for work but Im worried that it would probably get on the low side of the 20's and with gas prices climbing it wouldn't be feasable.
Thanks

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

You don't buy a camaro for the great gas mileage.

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

29 MPG would be a Highway Number. My wife gets about 23 MPG City/Highway combined (mostly city) on her V-6. Straight Highway we've gotten 28 MPG

KM9V, Im not expecting great gas mileage but 29 supposedly compared to 22 realisticly is a deal breaker when I drive 40000 miles a year.

Then why aren't you buying a 42mpg Cruze? Certainly 42 as compared to 29 would be a deal-breaker by your logic as well.

because I want to get a new Camaro, its not that I need a new car . I know someone with a Cruze and he's not even getting near 42mpg. It would be nice if the cars actually got the mpg that is claimed.
anuarism thanks for the reply

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

I had a V6 2LT for a week, didn't drive light footed, and was in the city 80% of the time. The gauge said I averaged 23.3 mpg.

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

I have yet to find a vehicle in which I could not achieve better gas mileage EPA published estimates while driving normally. Heck I can get 30mpg on highways with my 383 stroker, I average 50 year round (55 summer, 45 winter) in a Prius, and my wife was getting 42 in a Yaris last week. I was averaging 25 back when I was driving a 1990 Lincoln Town Car which the previous owner had been getting 14...

I averaged 30 MPG with my bone stock 2002 LS1 Z28 4L60E Auto doing 80 MPH on the freeway... (Sticker claims 26 for the high side) .. (I also have threads and photos proving this)

My 3.8L V6 got 33 MPG with its 3.42 rear axel doing about 75 MPH on a road trip...

So it CAN happen, but people all assume that its the car that makes the gas mileage but completely forget that conditions play a HUGE factor as well. My 3.8L V6 broke 33 MPG at night, no traffic, cruise control, and the temperatures hovered around the 40's...

My Z28 did its 30 MPG run at 80 MPH, Cruise control, light traffic, absolutely no slowing down or speeding up from the time I entered the freeway till the time I exited, and the temps were between the 60's and 70's and dry.

Sure cars do have their physical limits of what they can and cannot achieve but conditions will optimize them for the best, or worst possible results. You can feather foot it through gridlock and run the A/C in humidity heat on the "Highway" and still only break 22 MPG and then you can run 80 MPH with no A/C and break 30 MPG if the temperatures and traffic is right...

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

The way the EPA calculates MPG has changed over the past few yrs. It is also based on 100% gasoline not E10 which gives less mileage.

although 99.8% of gas stations only sell E10 - I was surprised to see pure gasoline in Kansas State but I filled up with it and didn't get any increase in mileage on my road trip from Atlanta to Seattle.

run higher octane!

my buddy has a eco cruze and gets 45mpg. he works in the service dept at the chevy dealership and he said you cant run regular in it to get that mpg. you need to run higher octane in it more often. running low octane only makes the mpg worse.
