Thumbs up

And trust me, it was a fight at times to make sure it stayed in there.

Just curious... why do you care so much?

I get that it's cool that it's still technically an "F body", but I don't see why it means so much to so many people. What's the appeal?

Pedigree. History. Respect for the F-Body heritage. To me that is a NO brainer.

Continuity. For me, it's the F-Body that I like, I don't pick a favorite between the Camaro or Firebird. F-Body takes on a greater meaning since it encompasses both of my fav cars. It's been an F-body since 1967, and it's so nice to see it continue that way. So even though we don't have a Firebird, it's a nice tribute that the new Camaro keeps an "F" designation.

I think it's a nice touch and cool for nostalgia but an F in the VIN doesn't make it an F-body.

I agree , without the F in there its not an "F" car.

Too bad we'll never see a new Firebird again since Pontiac is out.

Any particular reason why? You wouldn't think it'd be THAT big of a deal to decide on what body code to give a car in the VIN.

Semantics/technicalities. Would any of you enjoy the car any less if it didn't have an F in the VIN?

Sure, it's a nice touch, but it's not like the car would be any different if a different letter were used

As long as we're all happy, that's what matters

That depends on your definition of pedigree.

F-body had nothing to do with the VIN actually.

We have us a winner!

Considering this new Camaro gets most of its influence from the first generation Camaros, particularly 1968-69... those of you who insist on an "F" in the VIN makes it an F-body for "heritage" reasons might be interested to know that there never was an F in the VIN of any 1967-69 Camaro.

In 1967-69, the VIN either had an L or an N... not F... not even on the Trim tag.

Yea I think some of the misconception is between the GM platform the car is based on and its' VIN number. F-body (Camaro/Firebird) is just GM's designated 2 door, 2+2 seat, RWD platform (architecture) for the first 35 years of existence. The 5th Gen is on the Zeta platform.

Again I think it's a nice touch but adding an F to the VIN of the 5th Gen doesn't change the platform. It's still based on Zeta.

Really I don't see what the big deal is as we are just lucky to have the car back on any platform.

3rd gens don't have an f in the vin either in reference to the platform. the F in the vin is more of a substitute for the platform not being called the f-car/ f-body rather than a continuation. I just think it's awesome that enthusiasts have enough input and pull to influence the designation in the VIN! It isn't moving mountains, but it's still pretty cool.

My 3d gens vin starts with "1G1FP..." The "FP" indicates the body type.
