I've been thinking that all along. I don't think the Z should be the biggest and fastest but I think it needs to be there from the word go. By the time this thing makes it to production 400hp will be a drop in the bucket. 10 years ago 275 was the tops.

Re: Should the concept V8 Camaro be called an SS or Z28?

I like the fact that its just "Camaro". It keeps us all guessing....

Will there be a SS?

Will there be a Z28?

Will it get a bigger motor?

Will it get a supercharger?

If it goes into production, to meet the numbers Bob Lutz is talking about, there has to be a V6 model... unless they can't get better mileage than the LS2 in 50% mode.

I think the Z28 should have a solid lifter, de-stroked 5.3 coming in at about 302 c.i. and making upwards of 400 hp.

Re: Should the concept V8 Camaro be called an SS or Z28?

i highly dount they will put the LS7 motor into a camaro unless they de-tune the motor down some like they have done in the past when the vette and F-body's shared the same engine. GM wont let the camaro "out do" the corvette. The Corvette will remain on top nd the camaro will be a close 2nd. hopefully not in price though

Bingo. The more discrepency there is in the different packages, the larger the increase in cost. That equates to more sales to break even. I'm sure GM is aware of that, and because of this will limit the major mechanical changes.

I think we're all dreaming when we think there's going to be more than two powertrain choices in the new car.

Re: Should the concept V8 Camaro be called an SS or Z28?

NO... that is the whole idea.

The RS has the optional V8 but not all the muscle, yet has all the FOO FOO stuff....

THE base SS is a base car with 6.0L and performance goodies standard.

Combine the 2...RS/SS

As far a ZL1 option. I will think... over bet the following year they would offer a 427. they may call it 490 or 475 HP but it will be the same MOTOR!

remember LS1 corvette 345... camaro 305. Yet RIGHT!
