A review of what we saw

The 5th Gen has its own board, pretty cool! But back to business.

OK, we've seen incomplete, edited pictures of the 5th Gen. As a Camaro crazy lunatic I just have to say a few things and I know RP is looking for feedback. I can only comment on these pictures, NOT what the car looks like now or will look like after NAIAS. SO, here we go.

What I'm looking at here, is basically exactly what 70% or so of us have been campaigning against. The car is a 1st Gen, it's a 68 and 69 Camaro mixed together inside and out, with the exception of an IROC-Z steering wheel. (a nice touch though, many requested a 3 spoke like that) The entire interior looks kind of odd though. You cannot see any other Gen in it other than the 1st. It's retro just like the M*stang and Challenger. On top of that, it looks exactly like almost every other concept we've been looking at for years now. The front grill and headlights need work, they just doesn't look right and many concepts that people did would fit the car way better. The rear of the car needs alot of work, the shape of the trunk, the lack of a spoiler, the lousy taillights, the weird bumper/tips all need to be changed. The side of the car is nicely done, although I thought we'd see the 69 fender lines. The grills in the side are OK, but the mirrors are a little crazy looking, thankfully they are not blended though. The rims are too generic and boring looking. The true dual exhaust is cool and overdue. The roof and hood are nice.

Overall, it's a nice car. It's not anything new or inspirational though, as it could have been. Kinda average. I expected something newer looking where you could see many Gens in it easily, which people pulled off in their concepts nicely. I guess I'll be able to take comfort in that my Third Gens will look way more modern (and better) than this new car if it comes out looking like that. I'm 50% on it. I just expected more.

I disagree, mostly. Of course it has cues from the 1st gen, but to me it looks completely modern.

You pretty much summed up my sentiments.

JCam,

Why? Because it has no chrome? To me that doesn't make it modern. Every line on that car is 1st Gen inspired, except maybe the 2nd/3rd Gen fender flares. What other Gen are people seeing in it LOL?! Look at the interior even.

That's I have been saying. Does anyone see any other design cues from any other gen besides the 1st gen?

Re: A review of what we saw

I see a modern looking car with 1st gen styling cues. Just because I see things that remind me of 1st gen features doesn't automatically make it retro to me.

Re: A review of what we saw

*shrug* I'll post exactly what I posted in the other thread...

Way too retro and an ugly rump was my first impression yesterday.

Now that I've has 24 hours to digest and reflect.....

What I like
1) The stance
2) The more sharply creased passenger side version
3) The glowering front fascia
4) The scowling rear fascia / light arrangement
5) The muscular rear fenders
6) The wheel design
7) Body color accented interior with aggressively bolstered seats
8) INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION!!!!!
9) Dual (for the most part) exhaust

What I can live with
1) Struts on all four corners
2) The crowd of people that will gather around everytime I park it
3) All the innocent bystanders that will get whiplash everytime one drives by

What I dislike
1) The retro, old school interior. Give me a modern cockpit please.
2) The exhaust tips. Flash is good but these are too over the top. Something a bit more tasteful please.

What I would add
1) A subtle ducktail spoiler on the trunk edge
2) The Camaro badge / ribbon / shield

What I'm hoping for
1) Front brake ducts
2) Rear brake ducts incorprated into the side "vents"
3) A light(er)weight, no nonsense, bad ***, ZO6-like Z28 model to wear said brake ducts

Verdict
A home run and I'm willing to bet the final show version is even better. The devil now is in the execution.
