Question for those that have HEARD the V8 car running...

Does it sound good or is it kind of weak like the LS1 cars? My moms GTO sounded really good, much more aggressive than the stock LS1 Fbodies, and I was just wondering if they gave a similar sound to the 5th gen.

Check out this thread at Camaro5. Scott says a few posts in that the exhaust note in the vid is NOT the final exhaust note, but it sounds like a good start to me!

I heard the exhaust note of the red car. It sounded good when Scott started it up in the tent, but it wasn't loud.
When he was driving it thru the courtyard (probably at or a little above idle speed), it was eerily quiet. Someone else there remarked on it's quietness, too.

I asked at the bash about the exhaust on the SS since it was so quiet and was told it is not the final exhaust.

I bet that was done on purpose seeing as they were trying to pass it off as a V6.

No matter how it sounds, my new SS will end up with a Flowmaster or a SLP Loudmouth on it!

No matter how it sounds, when I buy an SS, it's getting whatever complete system (i.e. not open headers, turndowns, etc) yields the most power gains.

You guys that say you're getting a Flowmaster or an SLP system, before those are even available...

I'm getting the A6, so I'm hoping the stock exhaust is mean enough (GTO was fine w/ me), not sure how the aftermarket systems would sound w/ the AFM engaged.

Check the G8 forums. There have been a lot of struggles with getting a decent sounding system without drone with the AFM. As soon as it kicks in, most of the systems don't sound good inside or outside the car and then drone right at cruising speeds. This is becoming a problem for guys with long tube headers also. Magnaflow ended up creating a special muffler for the G8 as they couldn't get any of their off the shelf mufflers to sound decent when the AFM kicked in. There are a few threads about it and Kook's has talked about it also in one of their threads on developing their complete system for the G8. The rumor is that it's one of the reasons the factory exhaust is so quite (to avoid any drone/resonance issues with AFM). Probably why the GTO systems sound nice from factory, no AFM to deal with.

BTW No offense to the Flowmaster fans (I love them on older cars), but I've never heard one that sounded good on an LS-1 car. I'm not in the minority (according to my buddies with LS-1 f-bods). One of them did say there is a new flowmaster that is supposed to sound better on them, so we'll see. Although to be fair, I think the Cora's and Magnaflows sound good on LSX cars and not older musclecars.

Hopefully they use a Xpipe like on the 3.6 cars <<and kudos to sound of the 6 . X-pipe gives a LS engine a sweet tone . Just use an X-pipe and copy Corvette Corsa touring mufflers and the world will be a better place I always thought the GTO's , single and dual , stock exhaust sounded aweful . Unlike a gen1 or gen 2 smallblock , u gotta really work to make a LS engine sound sweet ....jmo

I wonder how difficult it is going to be to adapt the Z06/ZR1 dual-mode muffler to the Camaro?

If the aftermarket doesn't find a way, someone here will.
