No Camaro ads during the Super Bowl

GM spokeswoman Kelly Cusinato said that GM's decision to drop Super Bowl ads is due to the restructuring plan and that the automaker did not have a major vehicle launch coinciding with the game.

So GM does not consider the new Camaro to be a major vehicle launch?

i dont know but i do know the super bowl adds cost many many millions of dollars for a 30 second add. its probably not in chevy's budget for the camaro. they've done a good deal of advertising already and the cars not out yet.

GM shifting much of their Ad spend to Online Marketing.
Leave the SB Commericals to Pepsi and Budweiser...

if you don't know, why embellish it? on average it cost $2.7 million for a 30 second ad during this years super bowl.

Up to $3 million for 30 second spot in Feb. 09 Super Bowl.
What is significant is that a GM spokeswoman stated that they did not have a major vehicle launch coinciding with the game. The 2010 Camaro is to start production in Feb. 2009 which does coincide with the Super Bowl.

I think a super bowl ad will be icing on the cake for marketing of the Camaro. GM had always had at least one ad in the super bowl as far I can remember. It would be a missed opportunity if they don't capitalize on this. GM fiscal year ends on the 31st of December so they will have a new budget. GM is counting on the Camaro’s success and what is the best way to put your future in the lime light by placing a Super bowl ad.

Regardless of the reasons, this statement is outrageous and needs to be
explained. Unbelievable.

You must also take into consideration that she may have been lying about the reason.

This is why some of us are so Frustrated....

It is decisions like this that firstly has GM in the situation that it is in. It is a reason why they charge so much for superbowl commercials, because it is one of the most watched events nationally, people watch it just for the commercials. So why would you not advertise the camaro which supposedly comes out weeks later. Enthusiast cannot sustain the life force of this car. Bean counters suck and always dilute the essence of everything... This in no way is a slam on Scott... If Gm has to trim commercials throughout the year on already existing models that are currently on showroom floors then thats what you do...They show a gazillion cadillac escalade commercials and CTS commercials....GM Please don't screw this up.

Speaking as someone who used to be in the advertising business, IF what she said was true, it MAY be that they don't consider it a good investment of capital to advertise a product that no one can purchase for 5 or 6 weeks at the minimum. I would be leery of spending that kind of green on advertising something that wasn't ready for immediate sale, but that's just me.
