And the V6 Mustang only has 210hp while the V6 Camaro has direct-injected 300hp. And according to this article a fully optioned GT would be around $36,000, about $1,500 more than an SS Camaro I put together on the Camaro calculator. However you slice it, they are closely priced but until they hit the tracks we won't know which will be king. And yes I purposefully left Challenger out.

GM actually aligned themselves well on this one. Maybe they had an idea of how much Ford was going to charge for their re-skinned S197 that was to be in direct competition to the Camaro for the 2010MY in 2009. The Camaro certainly offers enough extra to justify it's more premium price. And the prices overall are close enough to promote cross shopping and that is important for the new Camaro vs. tried and true Mustang.

Wow, the Mustang is much more expensive than I thought it was going to be. I honestly don't see any reason someone would buy the Mustang instead of the Camaro, unless they are die-hard Ford guys, or 1 grand difference is the make or break...which I doubt. Does the 2010 Mustang have more standard features than the 2009 model?

The also undercut the Camaro on horsepower, equipment levels in base cars and in suspension. At the end of the day Mustang guys will buy Mustangs, Camaro guys will buy Camaros and those on the fence will go with what car strikes their fancy the most. 1 grand difference in base price will not be a factor in any buying decision. You will still be able to go to any car rental place in the country and drive a Mustang. I hope we won't see any Camaro's on rental lots.

people may feel that t he camaro is the highest in price but it has way better quality and appeal than the mustang. not to mention about 90+hp difference. thats the biggest selling point. more for your money.

Too many people focus solely on price and forget that what is typically important is cost versus value as long as it still fits their situation.

I agree. Even a base stick shift car you get a great engine and the big dog rear diff. That is well worth the difference over what you get on a stang.

There's no comparison in terms of value when a $1000 difference is considered after looking at the features of both cars. But a $1000 difference is not going to be the reality, I suspect...

The market will dictate actual transaction prices and I'm thinkin' that Ford is going to have to be discounting/offering significant incentives on the Mustang - especially after the Camaro hits the showroom - if they want to move them in the quantities they're used to.
If GM ends up discounting the Camaro or offering incentives, I don't think they will be anywhere near as significant as those that will likely be on the Mustang, so really, a larger price differential between the 2 cars might end up being the norm.

Best regardSS,

Elie

In terms of quality and performance Ford's Mustang has been cornered by the Camaro and Challenger and Ford HAD to do something to counteract the honestly more attractive competition. But other than a nice interior with lots of toys to distract you, the 2010 Mustang isn't unique enough to distinguish it from the current model and that's showing me that Ford is happy to sit on their laurels, believing the current Mustang is popular enough to succeed against it's rivals. Not a good move!

Without advanced suspension modifications such as IRS and without more sophisticated powerplants to motivate their tired platform the Mustang's only real threat to Dodge and Chevy is the GT500, which in practical testing at Edmunds and other car mag's posted numbers that look well within reach of the SS Camaro, and not substantial enough to completely outpace the SRT-8 Challenger, at nearly twice those cars prices!

This is all still based on the scant information available about the SS Camaro's performance, but if what we've heard from the GM engineers is right it's gonna be pretty damn interesting!

The base mustang will get its a** kicked big time by the standard V6 Camaro. The V6 Camaro might even give the V8 Mustang GT a run for its money. A lot of Mustang owners are going to be depressed over the perfomance of the Mustang on the street compared to the Camaro.
On a preformance basis alone (all factors considered) the Camaro will kill the Mustang. And if the Mustang is still the rattletrap of its predecessors the Camaro will kill it in terms of road and wind noise too. I'd venture to be that the standard Camaro has better brakes than the Mustang too.
You get what you pay for .......and if you don't pay for it you don't get it!

Where are all the "soon to be Mustang owners because the Camaro is way overpriced" guys now?
