Mustang sales down 9% Camaro sales down just over 20% Challenger sales up 27% Mustang outselling Camaro. Challenger matching Camaro sales for the month. Very interesting stuff indeed.

If you dig around gm.com, ford.com, and chrysler.com you can find the sales info. Usually in the press releases.

Makes sense to me. The Camaro is getting a bit stale for MY 2013. People have seen this car roughly unchanged since 2009. And with the much publicized refresh coming in 2014 I can't blame anyone for wanting to hold off until later this year to get a newer looking Camaro.

And not to take anything away from Ford because they have continued to refine and improve this Mustang and the 2013 is the best yet.

As for the Challenger it has been improved too and it's sales have stayed steady. It has the market for the slightly larger muscle car marker locked up. Also I think people are aware that it's not going to last in the marketplace forever.

Why have Camaro sales slowed more than Mustang for the last few months allowing the Mustang to take a slight lead? Because the refreshed 2014 is just around the corner and Chevy has not started the fire sale on the 2013s. Not trying to take anything away from the Mustang.

Ask yourself:

Why is it that about 1 in 10 Camaros are sold to fleets - while 1 in 3 Mustangs are sold to fleet...

Then look at the incentive spend on Camaro - then Mustang - then Challenger....

Look at pricing......

Long term health of a brand can be severely damaged with fleet sales - esp daily rental...........

Also: 2014 Mustang has been available for a while - the 2014 Camaro is not quite yet available to consumers.....


Questions will give you answers in the larger picture........

I'm much happier to see the Camaro selling fewer but being more profitable than selling more and loosing money on every one. That's what will continue to bring new and better Camaros to us in the future.
