MacPherson strut/double wishbone?
#31
Well, if the 5th-gen is going to weigh more than the 4ths, let's hope they get that Mac suspension setup good?!

Pete, thirdgens were capable of low-to-mid .90's skidpad numbers in the mid 80s. But to get those numbers GM put massive swaybars and a wonder bar (ties the two swaybar mounts together) so the ride suffered a little and there was some added weight. Although that was done on the ol Gatorbacks which don't really hold up to some of today's tires.

A bone stock '85 Iroc (1st year, had 5* neg camber) would do .92 on the skidpad with 245 wide 16" wheels, same as my '90 Vette which had 275 wide 17" tires.
It's not as important what design is used, it's HOW it's used that matters.
I don't think the GM engineers can afford to disappoint. They certainly didn't with the 3rd gens. We can all agree that the double wishbone is a superior design, but GM has proven that they can build a car that can handle. I suspect they know more about it than we do.
