Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Apparently A/C is going to be optional anyway, right? That makes sense. Leaving out a single speaker (no stereo sound!) when the head unit to drive presumably 4 remains in place is absurd/silly/ridiculous. That saves HOW much weight?
85% or more of these cars will never be dedicated track cars, and those that are will likely have a lot more stripped out of them. No A/C, no stereo doesn't make the car that much more hardcore IMO. Particularly when it's still pushing 3800 lb. Again, those who turn these into true dedicated track cars will gut it a lot further this anyway.
No, they were street cars. The Trans Am race cars built from them bore little resemblance to the stock street Z/28s! Also, this Z/28 is a street car. Trackable, yes.
Aye, there's the major rub...
Anyway, it's cool that you're able to order it without A/C or stereo, but there's no good reason not to offer those optionally.
And there's no good reason for the carbon/ceramic brakes to be *standard* when they'd be a ~$5000 option.
For whatever ridiculous reason, they *wanted* this car to be more expensive than the ZL1, so they made it that way. To those that argued that Z/28 should be "top dog", congrats! Now, can you afford one?
A 1LE with an LS7 for less than $50k should certainly have been doable, and would have been completely worthy of the Z/28 badge. IMHO!

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Z/28: (3800 + 200)/505 = 7.92 lb/hp, 7% more weight/power.
Z/28 should be a couple of mph and a couple of ticks slower in the 1/4.
The 1LE should also be heavier than a base SS with all those extra options.
GM has never officially announced the 1LE weight. Plus does moving up to the LS7 require any weight adding drivetrain upgrades?
LS7 does weigh a bit more than the LS3, maybe 30 lb.
LS7/1LE: (3905 + 200)/505 = 8.13 lb/hp, ~2.5% off the Z/28's power/weight.

Personally I can deal with the front end redesign, not that bad looking as long as they keep the HID and halo rings, they are doing what everyone else is doing refreshing their model line ups between cycles and bringing older product more up to date to new product introduced but, those taillights have got to go, they just break the flow of the car for me, they should have done something more 2014 C7 Vette style, than they would have a winner.
GM, if you want my money, then keep the HID and halo rings, and change the taillights to something more 2014 C7 Vette style.

Nor do I like the chrome strip that comes with the RS package either.
Look at the front end of the Z/28. Now that is sharp!

I'm with you 100% on that. Even the standard tail lights are better than then RS LEDs.

There's no question a tuned Z06 with proper tires would dominate. However with the Z06, there were compromises made to make it more comfortable on the street. These can easily be overcome with some minor tweaking. The Z/28 however will be barely street legal.

What about suspension an tires? Which is more tuned and ready to run out of the box?

Totally stock off the showroom floor, on inferior tires, the Z06 will kill the Z/28 at any track.
Of course most of us who track our street cars run different tires at the track anyway. Obviously, on same make/model track tires the Z06 will DESTROY the Z/28 at any track.
At 500 lb. heavier, the Z/28 is going to be LESS trackworthy than the Z06, even if the Z06 indeed were so much softer-core and compromised for that smooove luxuriant ride that they're known for.
Z06 = more trackworthy despite the whole "no stereo/no A/C because RACECAR!" Z/28 marketing gimmick...
