Had to laugh after visiting local chevy dealer today...
I visited the local Chevy dealer here in Vacaville today to take a look at a Inferno Orange 2SS to be sure I really like that color( and I do) and to let the wife see one in person. My first laugh was the 9,995 dealer markup ($47,400 total) they had on it. The second laugh was when the sales person, who was wearing a Camaro hat & embroidered Camaro shirt had to ask me what year my 69 Camaro was! While I guess you can’t expect sales people to recognize every vehicle from the brand they are selling, I would think in this case he could have identified the Camaro that inspired the one he is trying to sell. Is that silly of me to think? And by the way, I didn’t really think I would like the Inferno orange accent interior, but after seeing it in person I have changed my mind and to my surprise so does my wife.

Yeah, it's kinda like when you see a guy who's wearing a NASCAR car numbered shirt, and you comment about the team's last race and he's like, "I don't watch it I just thought the shirt was cool!"....lol..

I don't know about that. A car guy (and certainly a Camaro guy) should at least be able to distinguish a 67/68 from a 69. The 69 looks a lot different than the other 2 years.

So far I can distinguish a 1st Gen, Second Gen, 3rd Gen, 4th Gen(93-97), 4th Gen(98-02), and 5th Gen. And that is primarily thanks to Camaro Milestones magazine. I'm sure I will be able to distinguish the years later on but for now, I would say the exact same thing the dealer said.

A salesman is only as good as his knowledge of the product he is trying to sell. If he doesn't know much he probably won't be a good salesman. The more he knows the more he will sell. Sales101. I like to deal with someone who has deep knowledge of the products he currently sells and has sold and for that matter what he drives. I always ask the salesman what kind of car he currently drives.
I think you have to believe in what you are selling to be a good salesman. The dealer usually is not only selling you the car but also the ability to do maintenance on the car in the future as well.

I can distinguish all three, but maybe some people just like old Camaros and dont know every different body line or grill or vent or trim piece. Obviously this guy didnt. He likes Camaros good for him. He isnt an expert and knowing the difference between a 68 and a 69 wont help him sell a 2010.

I love Camaros but can't tell the first gens apart from each other. They're my least favorite, mainly due to their over saturation in the Camaro world. I would have a decent chance at telling the year of the 2nd-4th gens though.
