Sounds like a blast. I would love to make the trip although it would be quite a trek. I would just like to drive a lap around indy. I don't think my car will be fit for the trip by then though.

Hmmm.........I'm seeing some reflections of key dates from Scott's "The Day the Panther Died" article here...........anyone else notice that?

I'm not sure I'll drive or haul the 68 10 hours away, but I'm gonna make every effort to attend.

I'm not SS, but a 2009 Indy Pace Car makes little sense. Why? Because only the coupe will be available on initial launch. Best case scenario would be for a preproduction coupe. The Camaro is going to be a 2010MY anyway, so its not like trying to meet the 40th Anniversary of the second Camaro convertible to pace Indy would have any significance... or would it?

This is what I was referring to:

An excerpt from the Fbodfathers's article........

He then invited all news people to drive this new Chevrolet – and in fact all of the new Chevrolets
at a Press Preview in Detroit on September 12 and in Los Angeles on September 19.
Mr. Estes then said: “………..Oh yes! I almost forgot! The purpose of this meeting! Gentlemen:
much as we appreciate the tremendous publicity given “Panther” we ask you to help scratch the
cat once and forever. And as such, this will be both the FIRST and LAST meeting of SEPAW.
…………Chevrolet has chosen a name which is lithe, graceful, and in keeping with our other car
names beginning with the letter C……….it suggests the comradeship of good friends……….as a
personal car should be to its owner……..Above all, it is the name of our new car line to be
introduced on September 29……..and to us, the name means just what we think the car will do:
GO! ….and here it is!........”
At that moment, five very pretty girls came onto stage – each holding a letter……Mr. Estes held
the sixth letter – and while a narrator described to out-of-towners what was going on, Mr. Estes
placed each girl in order and then lined up with them for all to see the word “CAMARO.”

I may be reaching a little.......we'll have to wait and see.

Cool. Maybe there will be a draw to win a Camaro or a chance to drive it.

I'm going to try to go.

Two hours from the house, and I may be sporting a new toy by then (GM). One that would defintely enjoy a spin around the brickyard.

Sounds like fun. Might have to do this instead of the FBody Reunion in Bowling Green.

I might even have something with me the FBodfather would want to take a turn around the oval in....

I believe this IS what was in Bowling Green two years ago and what was in Detroit last year. Someone correct me if I am wrong...

Since the event isn't on the NCM calendar for 2008, you might be correct. Guess that makes the choice quite a bit easier to make.

Columbia, SC to Indianapolis, IN. 617 miles. Hey, that's only a little more than 6 hours away!. I think the Blackbird could make it. I don't think the 68 will be finished by then , either way I can be there topless.
