Factory True Duals: Too Loud for Non-Enthusiasts?

....Or just enthusiasts that prefer to keep the sound lower? As I see the videos of the concept, though the real engine is not being used, I notice, True Duals are pretty loud. I love that, but could your average car buyer who's interested in the Camaro be turned off because they think it's too loud?

Mustangs have them, corvettes have them. Neither are very loud. So no, having true duals would not turn most people off.

My 05 GTO came with true duals from the factory and you couldn't even hear it inside the car, bit I fixed that. It will be fine.

If i could have a car that made no noise no matter how fast it was running i'd take it.

True duals, off-road cross-over, high flow cats and mufflers...for the win.

Wake the neighbors and generally alert everyone to your presence.

Agreed. Most likely the exhaust will be too quiet. I think it would be nice if there was a little bit of volume to the exhaust note and a very nice tone. Something you can notice while driving/cruising but still able to go relatively unnoticed by neighbors and such at night. The aftermarket will handle the rest if need be.

The concept has a totally custom fabricated exhaust using flowmaster 40 series mufflers and no cats.

The production exhaust (other than both being true duals) will have nothing in common with the concept’s.

And like others have mentioned here, many other production cars have true duals without overly loud noise issues.

This is really a non issue.

I voted no myself, just wanted to make a thread because a new one hadn't been made in a while.

I knew that exhaust hote sounded familiar, my favorite flowmaster muffler!

It would be nice if it came with true dual exhaust from the factory.

If not, a quick trip to your favorite exhaust shop will correct the mistake.

I'm not concerned with the factory exhaust being too loud. With a "real" MUFFLER on the car (sorry, make that "2" ) it won't be any louder than the average 4 or 6 cylinder on the road. Heck, have you heard a new(er) GM truck with a 5.3L or 6.0L?! Exactly . V8's can be made quiet too. True duals isn't the cause for loud exhaust ... even my '02 with a "single" exhaust is (sort of) loud, but only because it no longer has the factory muffler .

I just want a nice note, without the drone. and i would like it to really open up and get loud at WOT

For my in my expierience with my SS, and my Vette, so far the answers to my exhaust questions all end with the same word.......CORSA.

But we will have to wait and see when it comes out.

Car manufacturers have to pass some sort of sound pollution standard (I think it's an EPA thing) on new cars. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it has something to do with a decibel meter at a certain distance from the car, certain RPM's, certain gear etc. That's why 2.73 A4 LT1's have the first gear blocked out at the shifter. One of the tests involve having the car in the lowest selectable gear, and the 2.73 A4 LT1's either put out too much noise or resonance. The fix was to prevent 1st gear from being manually selected.

Not sure what the limits are (if any) on full throttle though. I know my 01 SS with the CME ROARED (in my opinion) at full throttle. Also, the C6 Z06 has a butterfly valve in the mufflers that allow straight through flow at full throttle.

I don't think "too loud" will be problem or option depending on how you look at it.

...........besides, who the hell wants a loud/annoying exhaust at idle or cruise?

Anyone remember the computer "blueprints" of the chassis and suspension that came out around the beginning of the year?

Scroll down about half way. Looks like true duals to me!

^ Ron, I don't think the question is whether it'll be true duals or not ..... I think we know (or expect) that it will have true duals (well, the V8 at least?! ) but the question is merely, will true duals be "too loud"? I (personally) don't think so .

... at least not until "enthusiasts" get their hands onto the car and start substituting aftermarket exhaust for the factory!!
