Dealer Markup,

Dealer Markup,
Went out to eat last night and across the street was a local chevrolet dealership. After we ate we went by and noticed 2 matching 2SS/RS silver Camaros. One was manual, one was automatic. I noticed next to the vehicles sticker there was a lil additional sticker (almost like a sticky note) that had a $5,000.00 markup, placing the overall price of both cars just slightly over $40K a piece.
My question is, how long do dealerships typically have these markups? If I were in the market for one right now I would have turned around and left as soon as I saw that sticker. Pontiac tried that when the goat came out a couple years back and it turned me away from that purchase.

And the general public wonders why the manufacturer has a hard time selling cars. It's because the dealership doesn't want to sell them, they want to rape the public.
GM needs to take a hard look at what the retail end is doing with their products.

I like to believe that WE THE PEOPLE! are the ones in control. The economy and stuff works in our favor. Hell, even when the economy is back to normal. If they wanna mark their cars up, we dont buy. Either way the money is in our pockets. They have to make it reasonable and right for us to come off of our money.

One local dealership has purchased cars from MI, PA, & NC, they have 10 in stock (4 SS's). Salesman said they bought them for 3k over MSRP and are selling them for 6-9k over.
Go 5 minutes up the road and you can "order" one for MSRP...
With overtime going I hope supply catches up soon and they lose their asses on these cars...

I won't even consider buying one until I can get it for under MSRP, like any other car. I am not sure how long this crap with the dealers will last, but it is annoying.

The 2SS at the local GM dealer I went to had a bunch of dealer installed options and a $10k dealer mark up. All told, the asking price was over $55k. Needless to say, that car has been on their lot for awhile.

It's all going to depend on who you are dealing with. There have been stories out there of dealers ordering cars, then when they come in they add that "market adjustment" price on it.
