Camaro Safety & Crash Testing...

So almost 7 months later... how come the crash tests have not been completed yet? I would imagine I'm not the only one trying to sell my wife on this car. Anything to persuade her more would be great. How long could it possibly take?

If that is indeed the case, why do all the window stickers say there is no crash test ratings yet? I checked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website and a few others, and couldn't find any completion data.

You have to specify which crash tests you're interested in. There are certain crash tests which a car must pass before it can be sold. The NHTSA also performs additional tests that are at a higher speed, or otherwise more difficult, than the regulatory tests. Those are performed on production cars whenever NHTSA gets around to it. Also the IIHS performs their own set of bumper and crash tests -- again on production cars, again whenever they get around to it.
They both seem to put high volume family and economy cars at a higher priority than sports cars.
With the number of airbags and other safety features in the car, I don't know why your wife would be concerned about safety.

It's not so much that she thinks it is unsafe. But the more documentation I have, the easier the sell. I would be able to say, "You know, in frontal crashes, this is safer than my old car." Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have.

I stand corrected, here is what I received from Fitzpatrick on the subject...
But I can attest, safety was at the top of the list when this car was designed. Much of the disciple focus group meetings were spent on discussing it. I would be shocked if this car did not exceed previous Camaro safety reports.
We do not have a crash test result yet... The NHTSA has to purchase a car to run their test. To date, they had not found one to purchase. As soon as we know them, we will pass them along...

Engineering intent is for 5 star crash rating all around......
........a lot of internal crash testing is done by computer during the design/engineering phase -- but we still crash test 'em in real time as well.
(....very violent tests, by the way.......)
As to the 'star' rating - that's done by the Government, not the manufacturer.
We await government tests.
Tidbit of info: Notice that the new Camaro has TWO door latches for each door -- for safety and rigidity..........
