i read online that the 2010 version was tested but was 25 seconds slower then this ZL1. not sure how accurate that is tho.

I haven't looked at this car much, but I hear it'll go for $50K+. Probably closer to $70K now. To me, you're overpaying for dealer installed mods that you can source elsewhere for less. What you get is a warranty and a nifty badge.

Never been a fan of the tricked out dealer metal. What you have, after a few months, is a car you're plenty used to and an upside down loan with a payment as big as your house payment. It just seems like transparent pure profit to me. I saw a new Z06 on the lot the other day for $96K. What a turn off.

Don't run off mortgaging your life for this.

You make some bold claims, yet as you said yourself (highlighted in bold), you "haven't looked into this car much".

This isn't some dealer bolt-on and badge package. It has a completely different suspension system and was re-engineered from the ground up. Sure someone could take a stock Camaro SS, and spend the time and money to develop all the unique systems and features of the ZL1, but it would sure as **** cost a lot more than $50k (plus dealer "market adjustments") than the ZL1, and probably wouldn't perform as well.

This car is going to be a collectable and sought after by collectors for years.

The price is not known yet. Over 50 is possible, but 70 is unlikely.

For me to replicate that kind of power and performance (as far as power and handling beyond what I will ever use it for), I had to invest close to 60 into mine. Warranty? Long gone. My suspension is track-proven, but not technologically where like Magnaride is.

There has never been a Camaro like this. 30% of the parts on the ZL1 are new to the 5th gen Camaro. This isn't quite the same as just bolting parts on and shoving it onto the dealer foor. This thread is proof of that. Sure, someone can get a used and modded Z06 for less and people who want numbers 1st and what kind of car 2nd will do that. However, people have shown that they want big power and handling numbers in a Camaro and no other car.

It's an impressive time.

For some perspective to the '06 Z06 time, I believe the driver talked about how it was somewhat scary to drive that car with the lack of grip and downforce compared to its power to weight ratio. Add to that the conventional dampers.

The ZL1 gets the benefit of Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management. That's a huge benefit, especially for driver confidence. At least I can give myself a pat on the back for thinking it would be a great idea if they put the magnetic shocks on the ZL1 way back when. Not that I think GM actually listens to me, but at least they apparently thought the same way.

As far as the tires go, I don't know what the relative merits may be. I tend to think anything that says Michelin Pilot Sport is better than basically anything that says Goodyear on the side, at least as far as grip is concerned.

They will be much better...though the current goodyear supercar tires are much better than the previous generation too. The last ones that came out(that were standard on the Z06 up until 2011 I think) were awful for traction.
