Unhappy 1.5 Days

I received great news from the dealer on last Thursday. My Camaro was in so I went and picked it up. It was AWESOME to finally have it! My avatar is a picture of my Camaro and Hummer. I drove it around having the time of my life and loving it!!! The car is HOT.

On Friday evening I drove down to the Lake house to spend Memorial weekend there. On Friday night a buddy of mine wanted to go for a ride. I was more than happy to grant that wish. I came to a stop sign. No car in sight. I turned onto the road slowly then gave it some gas. Suddenly I heard a CLUNK! The car wouldn't go anywhere. All I could hear was a grinding coming from the rear. My guess is the rear end is gone. On Star had a tow truck there within the hour to tow it to the local Chevrolet dealership in a nearby town (I am in another state). Now I'm down about not having my Car. The service department was closed on Saturday so I will not be able to talk to anyone until Monday (service will be open on Memorial day). I will find out then how long I will be without my car. I took pictures of it being loaded on the tow truck, but it was night and they didn't come out well. I can only hope I get my car back soon.

I still love Chevrolet and Camaros! Hopefully it won't take long.

Are you pretty sure it's the rear? I hope this isn't still going to be an issue with the FBody.

Pretty sure, but not positive. It's a manual. When I let off the clutch I can hear the grinding in the rear. I was probably just a "lucky" one that got a defective part on my car. I'll update as soon as I get info from the dealer.

That's terrible! It'll be interesting to see if maybe the rear was dry of fluid... bearing failure... collapsed shim ect

Okay - Here is what the dealer is reporting. All they can find wrong is the axel is stripped. The problem is they went to order it but there is no stock available. The service rep did say that the parts manager is off today and he would probably be able to find and get it. I am to call back tomorrow to see if I can get an ETA. I'm hoping this is all that is wrong and it won't take long to get fixed. I am surprised that the axel stripped though. I must have gotten a defective one.

I hope it's just an isolated case. I wonder how many splines they have.

I can't believe all it did was strip the axle. How? I'm thinking something else locked up causing the axle to strip?

I have just over 300 miles on the car.

Update: The dealer has not been able to locate an axle for me. I waited six months for the car to drive it 1.5 days. I hope it doesn't take long to get that part.

Update: they are saying it will be at LEAST June 8th until they can get the part. I really feel this is way too long. I don't know the car business, but it seems they could overnight one to the dealer from Oshawa. That may be a simplistic solution that is not easy to execute. I did call GM/Chevrolet customer service. They made no promises, but said they were "escalating" it to see if I could be helped. I hope so. The service department at the dealer has been very pleasant to deal with, but I wanted to try to expedite from another direction.
