Spraypainted bowtie test
I ended up taking a chance and spraypainting a spare bowtie that I bought to play around with. It was only $14 shipped off of eBay.
After a few issues like breaking the insert when I first pulled it out. I think I've finally got it! I put a couple of clear coats of laquer on top which feels pretty solid after a couple of days so I hope it lasts.
Tomorrow I'll be putting on the car and taking it to work which is a 60 mile round trip. At worst, it'll be a learning experience and I'll put the original back on the car.

I'll get a shot of the whole car later. I took these the day I put it on there and while it needed a wash it's not too bad.
It seems the laquer is holding up to the daily road miles. We've had a couple of storms and it has been washed twice so I'm feeling good that it's going to last. Next up, I'll be painting the original one and swapping them back out. I'm considering throwing a logo or something in the center of the bowtie. If I don't ruin it I'll post pics of that as well.

I initially felt the same but it blends pretty well with the CGM paint on the car. My next one will be a flat black though. Now that I've done this, I'm looking at other ideas virtually, using GIMP (I won't pay for Photoshop).
This bowtie was a proof of concept for me because I'm not really much of a modder. I didn't actually expect the job to be as easy was it was or come out as well as it did so now I'm ready to figure out what I want for the final product. Since I'm happy with this one though, I'm going to let it ride for a while until the idea I want shows itself to me

One more shot on the car. This one looks like there's a bump on my hood but it's a gigantic fly that wouldn't stay away no matter how many swings I took at it.
