Got the hardcore racing bug but it's still
too cold to bring your beast out of the garage to play? Fear
not! Hot Chix 'n' Gear Stix is a high-adrenaline racing game
for Windows that available for download. This inexpensive and
very simple game features the likeness of a classic Camaro, Trans
Am and Mustang (real names were not used likely due to trademark legalities).
With the release of Hot Chix 'n' Gear Stix, Fiendish Games has
served up a testosterone fueled racer that plays host to a sextet
of super chicks, and some of America's finest muscle cars.
Six
Hot Chix The "Hot Chix" of the game is a total
of 6 different International babes (two in the demo version), each
with their own car. Each one is a sight to behold and offer
some great scenery when selecting game modes, cars, and tracks. After
that, they are out of sight during the racing portions of the game,
but they do complete the overall theme of the game without being distracting
when the race is on.
The
Cars Hot Chix 'n' Gear Stix features 6 different
cars to go with each of the Chix. As mentioned above, actual
production car names were not used, but the Camro V8 looks remarkably
like a classic Camaro, the Gran Am MKII is strikingly similar to a
2nd generation Trans Am, and the G2 Roadster bears a great resemblance
to a classic Mustang. Each car has its own different characteristics
with strengths and weaknesses that have to be discovered by playing
the game, but you will soon find that you like some cars more than
others. It is best to try each car in the time trail mode until
you find the car that you like the most and then try your hand in
the Championship mode to compete against other cars.
The
Tracks Just as you can pick from 6 International
beauties to ride shotgun, you can also pick 3 International race tracks
to participate in: Arizona Highway, Alpine Pass and Rushin' Winter.
All feature beautifully authentic landscaping, environment mapping,
volumetric fogging, particle effects, light coronas and lens flares
to add to the realism of hard driving. There are a few hidden
shortcuts to help you get past your competitors in the Championship
mode, as well as some small jumps to make things interesting. Even
though there are only 3 tracks, they are long enough to keep you on
the edge of your seat with all of the twists and turns and dynamic
obstacles that you have to maneuver your car through at high speed.
All 3 tracks can be played backwards for greater variety and
challenge.
The
Gameplay The gameplay is simple to learn and easy
to enjoy. As you cruise along fighting your way to the finish
line, funky 70's tracks jam away adding more nostalgic style to the
classic cars. The best feature about this game is the surprisingly
realistic suspension and handling each car has. It makes for
very lifelike responsiveness and very heated racing. If you
hold down the space bar when turning, you can powerslide around curves
and corners with very little effort. This was very costly to
lap times and winning races, but was even more fun and well worth
it.
The
Bottom Line This isn't the most advanced racing game out
there, but it is very fun to play and the surprisingly realistic car
physics make it a good time, not to mention the extra perks of the
copilots. For times when you want to engage is some quick but
fierce competition Hot Chix 'n' Gear Stix is a very affordable choice
and is overall a good game, with precise car handling, good music,
and challenging tracks. Not to mention it has a theme that is
not to common in the racing game world. Check
it out!
